Spanish 1 12-3-08 White day periods 5,7,8

Tarea: 12-3-08 due 12-5-08


Complete all grammar activities on conjuguemos. They all will be due next class. Sorry to those who completed them for 12-3-08. They all will be due 12-5-08 without exception. If you have not done any of them you have been given an extra opportunity to get them done. If you had already completed the activities make sure you double check and make sure you have completed them all. I did add an activity! Here is the list of all the activities you need to complete by next class 12-2-08

Also we will be having a test on December 9. That is next Tuesday it will cover chapter 2A and 2B at the same time.

If you would like more practice with the vocabulary from 2A and 2B you can always complete the Vocabulary activities under Vocabulary. I would highly recommend you practice these activities before the test!

Subject pronouns
The subject of a sentence tells who is doing the action. You often use people’s names as the subject:

Gregorio escucha música. Gregory listens to music.

Ana canta y baila. Ana sings and dances.

You also use subject pronouns (I, you, he, she, we, they) to tell who is doing an action. The subject pronouns replace people’s names:

Él escucha música. He listens to music.

Ella canta y baila. She sings and dances.

Here are all the subject pronouns in Spanish:

usted (Ud.) you (formal)
vosotros you (masc., masc./fem.)
vosotras you (fem.)
ustedes (Uds.) you (formal)
él he
ella she
ellos they (masc., masc./fem.)
ellas they (fem.)

Tú, usted, ustedes, and vosotros(as) all mean “you.”

. Use with family, friends, people your age or younger, and anyone you call by his or her first name.

. Use usted with adults you address with a title, such as señor, señora, profesor(a), etc. Usted is usually written as Ud.

. In Latin America, use ustedes when speaking to two or more people, regardless of age. Ustedes is usually written as Uds.

. In Spain, use vosotros(as) when speaking to two or more people you call individually: + = vosotros(as). Use ustedes when talking to two or more people you call usted individually.

If a group is made up of males only or of both males and females together, use the masculine forms:
nosotr
os, vosotros, ellos.

If a group is all females, use the feminine forms:
nosotras, vosotras, ellas.

You can combine a subject pronoun and a name to form a subject.
Alejandro y yo = nosotros Pepe y tú = ustedes
Carlos y ella = ellos Lola y ella = ellas

The verb estar
• Irregular verbs do not follow the same pattern as regular verbs.
• Estar (to be) is irregular. Its yo form (estoy) is different from the regular -ar yo form. Its tú, usted/él/ella, and ustedes/ellos/ellas forms are different because they have an accent on the a: estás, está, están.
• Here are the forms of estar:
Use estar to tell how someone feels or where
someone or something is located.

• Estar is used to tell how someone feels or to give a location.
